Or Ahavah is a Jewish spiritual community that offers creative Shabbat and holiday services on a monthly basis. Members and guests gather each year for a mystical Tu B’Shvat seder (Jewish New Year of the Tree), a first night Passover seder where we make family for each other and emphasize social justice issues, deep Torah study on Shavuot and joyous Chanukah celebrations. Or Ahavah conducts annual creative and deeply meaningful Rosh HaShanah services and holds a full 26 hour spiritual retreat for Yom Kippur. We often meet during the month before the High Holidays for a service dedicated to spiritual preparation for the Days of Awe.
Services often include Jewish meditation, drumming and chant. Members have various levels of Jewish education ranging from those who read Hebrew with some understanding and who have taken several classes related to Jewish practice and culture to those who do not read Hebrew and have relatively little knowledge. Services are designed in creative ways to empower people to immerse themselves in the services and rituals with understanding.
Or Ahavah is a Jewish Renewal Community and is affiliated with ALEPH, the umbrella organization for Jewish Renewal communities, ordination programs and education programs. As a Jewish Renewal Community, Or Ahavah embraces singles, GLBT people, interfaith families and all individuals yearning to explore their Jewish heritage.
Please refer to the menu at left for our calendar of services and for more information about our other activities such as the Jewish Book Club and the Mystic Torah Adult Educational Program.
About Jewish Renewal
The Jewish Renewal movement evolved over the past 50 years to be a joyful, creative, deeply spiritual and relevant approach to Judaism.
